Waterfalls SOS Social Centre
The SOS Social Centre, Waterfalls helps orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in the local community. It runs Community Outreach Programmes for five areas of Waterfalls. The priority is to meet the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children and their families affected by HIV/AIDS. The programme focusses on four main areas - Health, Education, Income-Generation and Housing. The Health Programme works in partnership with the National Aids Council providing treatment, and advice, as well as information and education to improve prevention. The Education Programme helps to ensure that orphaned and vulnerable children receive basic education and life skills to help them realise their full potential for their own and their families' futures. The Income-Generation Programme supports the families of orphaned and vulnerable children to enable them to increase their income. This has included helping twenty women gain access to micro-finance lending and funding the vocational training of young people. The Housing Programme works to help orphaned and abandoned children and their families to secure their housing. This includes both practical help - new doors, clean water - and legal advice. The SOS Social Centre is also working with the local community to give the leaders of the local community the confidence to continue the work begun by the SOS Social Centre.
