Abomey-Calavi SOS Social Centre

The SOS Social Centre at Abomey-Calavi works with the local government's Social Welfare Centres to help orphaned and vulnerable children and their families. 68 children have been identified for help. This has included support for education, prevention of malaria and food distribution in conjunction with the World Food Programme. There is a need to combat the major problems of malaria and poliomyelitis as well as the increasing incidence of HIV/AIDS related illnesses. This alone is estimated to have resulted in over 40,000 additional orphans in Benin.
